Osijek-One Written by James Mac Donald Something positive is happening in Osijek-Baranja that will hopefully inspire others to be entrepreneurs. This young team has set a goal to stay and live in Osijek by creating their own business. They have recently ventured into the craft beer market but they have gone one step further than the rest. The newest brewery you may not even know about its existence yet is LuPaHor Brewery. With its tagline “Customize your beer.” They have combined technology with something that is century years old of brewing. The question remains how to stand out above the crowd? With the beer market being labelled as one of the most exciting industries to get into these days. Everyone is trying to get a piece of the craft beer markets. Whether you’re in Croatia or the other side of the globe it has witnessed a great revival with many festival events leading the way. However, it takes a lot of thought and effort into creating something that set the bar above the rest. The one line that really sets them apart is “Now imagine that you could order craft beer according to your taste and wishes, creating your own” This has been a dream and imagination for many with much enthusiasms as they can now have the option. The team LuPaHor has hit the dream and inspiration of making something that fits your taste for beer. Entrepreneurs Osijek recently has become the most innovative and sparking fresh ideas in the past few years. With many young people deciding “let’s do something we like and enjoy and stay instead of leaving for other countries.” It’s great that there is this U-turn movement in Osijek which is catching on, despite the other topics that the media likes to play on. They have just launched their Indiegogo campaign it can be seen here. LuPaHor Brewery is really has done something that no other Craft Beer Company in Croatia or Europe has done. Video “Lu Pa Hor Brewery - Customize your beer! Croatia” The video is produced well without any gimmicks or special effects which is rare in the marketplace of Craft Beer. Martina and Jasmin in the video have done a great job of highlighting how the company works. (Missing Goran in Video) The video shows how the individuals can make the beer to their taste using the App. They have tackled the one question that everyone loves to ask “How did you start the business?” With a bit of fun they solved this mystery so we won’t tell you as you should really check the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=pugugJaKmV0 Interview
I had the chance to interview Jasmin Pavlović with just a few questions about the start-up of entering into the Craft Beer Market. Yes many questions the biggest is the brewing. How will you be able to control the aroma and flavour for each customer? “Regarding the aroma and flavors, we plan to have different levels of aroma, bitterness etc. that you can choose as a customer, thus creating your own customized beer. In this way, you can customize your beer and simplify the brewing process.” Would you just have maybe 4 types of beer or different flavours to start? “We currently plan to put three products on the market, two being IPA's and third Blond Ale” Is craft beer startup looking at the wide market or the niche market? “To answer your last question, our initial market would be targeted towards local pubs that are adopting the craft beer culture. Afterwards, our plan is to expand nation-wide and ultimately to EU market, but that is a long way.” In the near future would the brewery be in Osijek, or somewhere on the other side of the river Drava? “We are exploring the possible locations for our brewery in Osijek, but other side of Drava River (Baranja) is also a possibility. In general, we are oriented on Slavonia and Baranja country for the location of our brewery.” I noticed you choose the bottle over cans? Why this direction? As I see in North America cans have higher sales than bottles. “In Croatia the beer culture is more associated with bottles than cans, the main reason being the price difference. In retail beers in cans are more expensive than beer in bottles. In last few years some shopping markets like LIDL have started to import very cheap beer in cans, even cheaper than our domestic beer, so it is possible that this trend of cans vs bottles changes in the near future.” How many are on your team for the startup? “There are three of us in our team: Martina Lucic (food technology), Jasmin Pavlovic (marketing and economics) and Goran Horvat (engineering)” What are the plans? “We plan to go step by step....this is the only way to succeed (my opinion)...Of course, we will be open to all quality co-operation... We will need every help, but we will know exactly when the campaign ends. We love beer so we hope our campaign will be successful... me and my team have good ideas but money is always a problem, especially in Croatia. Also, with our endeavour we have tried to encourage young people to stay here in our Croatia and make a life here, rather than leaving our country in search of a better life abroad.” For more information about the Lupahor-brewery page: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/lupahor-brewery-customize-your-beer-slavonia-cro-brewery#/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LUPAHORpivovara/ Website: www.lupahor.com |
