Written by James Mac Donald This Tuesday on August 11 in Osijek the old Villa Batory was starting to show signs of great progress. The roof was looking great with a newly constructed roof. The façade was meticulous being reconstructed with its original decoration motifs of small sculptures. Most people in Osijek when I spoke to in the past five years thought nothing good could be done and it was stuck in limbo. This year the villa Batory starts to be turned back into its former glory, as one of the most Iconic buildings of Art Nouveau era. The time Villa Batory was built had happened during the industrial era and the height of Osijek’s good fortune.

Written by James Mac Donald local OPG helping to get food to the people. In this day and age of change of living due to the unprecedented circumstances, people are relying on local resources to keep things moving and putting food on the table. Things changed when the markets were ordered to close from the government advisory of Croatian Civil Protection Authority. With many Croatians demanding fresh local produce as they are increasingly choosing and selecting Croatian products. Young and old are paying more attention to their diet of healthy living. There is greater confidence in consuming the local product as they can taste the quality and freshness of the fruits and vegetables. The other great thing is that many have built a relationship of knowing the local OPG producers at the market. However, the town and city center open-air markets are now closed as well as public transportation until further notice because of the virus and safety issues. |
