Osijek-One Written by James Mac Donald Photos by James Mac Donlad Mc Donald’s faced the fate of being demolition today with no notice or anyone from Osijek really knowing about its fate. With a full crew of construction workers and heavy machinery on site to do a complete teardown. With Mc Donald’s location on the corner of Drinska Ul and Ul Kneza Trpimira it was one of the places to be in Osijek for something that was Iconic of North American fast food chain. The main question could be: is it history or just the fast pace world of North America creeping up with the changing times. There was no notice on the door a week ago with the Mc Donald’s serving their Mc Donald’s happy Meals and Big Mac’s to the customers. It came to a shock today as many people pulled up to witness the destruction as it was a site to be seen. y came to say good bye to the many fond memories of having their first date or catching up with friends after the Osijek football game.
The location of Mc Donald’s in Osijek at of Ul Kneza Trpimira and Drinska Ul was probably the first restaurant to have a drive-thru window in Osijek. Having a drive thru was something counter culture as most people preferred to sit and eat food to socialize. In North America, the culture was referred to as Dash board eating as they raced to work driving and eating at the same time. The location is sure to see a new Mc Donald’s before the end of 2017, as the property and location is too valuable of land with being close to the many sports facilities and highway. Then and Now The building of Mc Donald’s in Osijek resembled the Iconic American style from the 90’s era and early 2000’s with the colours of pop-culture fast food. The style and colour were bright white and red walls with the light fixtures of modern culture. The round circular and square marble tables were the styles of the last decade. The chairs in cold grey steel dominated the fast food industry for interior design. With the Mc café that swept through in early 2010, it was to appeal to the coffee culture of just every other fast food café. With the dark grain wood on the walls and the dark sleek floor that was hip in most upscale café shops that served Expensive Latte drinks. The one thing with the change was it lost the appeal to young families as it looked very dark and did not look like the traditional Mc Donald that everyone grew up with. The question remains will the new style appeal to the people living in Osijek as this design is now eight years old. |
