Osijek-One Written by James Mac Donald In Tvrđa June 13, 2017, was a very busy day as people from Osijek and surrounding communities came to this Holy event. The Pilgrimage is one of the biggest days in Osijek with thousands of believers flocking to the area for the confessions and to see the church. The celebration of Saint Anthony’s feast happens every year on June 13 as it has done for centuries. Holy Mass began 3:00 in the morning and continues until the evening with last mass at 21:00. (3, 4, 5, 6, 7:30, 9, 10:30, 12 noon, 16, 18, 21:00) The history dates far back to 1732 when the Franciscan monks built the church of St. Anthony of Padua. The various parts of the church have undergone renovations but the uniqueness of the church still remains. The Architecture and grandeur of the church is incredible as photos of the inside do not capture every small detail. With much to see inside with the hand carved alter and sculptures, that are truly incredible to see in person. When you visit the church one can understand why so many take the time to the pilgrimage each year for this special feast. The Feast also has a big fair where you can get some unique religious items in remembrance of this day that is celebrated every year. There is lots at this fair as well with a Fair grounds and a Midway (Carnival Rides) and food tents. With many different vendors on scene there is something for everyone.
