Catching the 12 Anniversary of Noc Muzeja in Osijek was a great time for many museum enthusiast. Arriving early was a great idea to avoid the crowds that would later arrive in the evening. Crowds had gathered outside in the cold to enjoy this free event Night of Museums. The event was from 18:00 to 01:00 just after midnight, with many other parts of Croatia taken part of this spectacular event. With many programs that were interactive for children and young adults making it the perfect family night. For the older audience there was plenty of Multimedia and live performance made it a unique experience while having fun. The music of the time is ever present with the live performance as it echoes through the museum gallery corridors amplifying the history of Croatia vast history. The first visit was to Museum of Fine Arts greeted visitors to a unique idea a make a wish tree with black ribbons. They were encouraged if they liked to take part using a white fabric paint marker to write their wish. The building outside did a great piece of art work using candles to make the logo used for Noc Muzeja. Every room had its own identity of art in its own genre of style. It was interesting to watch how audience observed abstract art work. Transpiring curiosity for patrons to ask what it meant to them and to reflect ideas. Looking at photos and digital images immerses the audience to place that they have not visited back in time and contemplating the thoughts of being in that situation. Children were given an opportunity to be creative of manually making prints on the printing press. There were many programs through-out the evening after the children’s hours that ran earlier in the evening. There was even a gold gilded open frame encouraging visitors to take a selfie to celebrate the evening. On hand was open exhibit of digital media that is new to Osijek, this is can be seen at their website here if you missed seeing the show. This is something that is metamorphic as it evolves with many artist taken part of the Pivilion.(The website is called pavilion.net ) The Museum of Slavonije was the next stop with two parts that were accessible to the public. Live music performance from young and old students did a great job. Many visitors stopped to enjoy the harmony and tranquility of the music. The violinist playing classical music really added nostalgia and atmosphere to the event of Noc Muzeja. Walking through the museum at night had its own experience that is a rarity for many people. The lighting and the shadows created by the night gave sculptures a different appearance.
The importance of a museum in a digital age The luxury of being surrounded by the wonders of antiquity makes one realize the wealth of history and preservation that is required for generations to come. Looking at photos of the past and seeing the exact same piece of furniture in the museum has an effect of seeing the richness of an era that has long gone. To have children see how type writers and printing presses existed before the digital age is hard for some to understand. However for young audience to see it in real time let them see that days before the digital age of copy and paste was more manual and labour intensive . The museum does not have the instant gratification swiping to see what is next. The audience must visual understand the object and the clues provided to understand and retain the information. Looking forward to next years Night of Museum in 2018 as this year was a success with many visitors and tourists having a night out to enjoy this event. With many thanks to all the volunteers and people who took donated their time to make a success.
